Maple Crest Farm History

Maple Crest Farm is family owned and operated for seven continuous generations. Originally, a 146 acre dairy farm that transitioned to a horse training and boarding facility in 1970. Stacey and Brant Giere currently own the farm, with Stacey and Meredith overseeing the horse operation.

1811 Lemuel Bourne, from Northampton, MA becomes the second person to settle in Brecksville, arrives via land in the Western Reserve from the Connecticut Land Company and built the third log cabin in Brecksville
1820s Chessman Miller arrives and builds a log cabin on Miller Road and establishes the farm

1850s Stop-over for the underground railroad
Late 1800s - 1964 MCF becomes a recognized leader in Jersey dairy cow breeding and genetics

1905 Chessman's granddaughter marries Lemuel's great granddaughter
1908 East Ohio Gas Company pipeline bisects the farm
1964 - 1967 The Jersey herd is sold as I-77 takes 65 acres of pasture and cropland and the Chessman Miller farmhouse is moved 1/4 mile west, to it's current location
1970 Horses and 'recreational agriculture' become the primary source of farm income
1990s MCF expands the facility with an indoor riding arena and the addition of 36 more stalls
2020s MCF faces new challenges as I-77 and Miller Road expand

COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT
Lifetime of participating in Brecksville’s Christmas & Memorial Day Parades, and Halloween Fest

1920s - Present, Welcome schools & tours
1970s - Present, Partner with local schools, Career Centers, Lake Erie College, Ohio State University, Stautzenberger College, etc. to train interns
2011 Hosted the Budweiser Clydesdales during the Bicentennial Celebration
2020 Organized drive-thru scavenger hunts, holiday light tours, and performing art series to raise money for local non-profits and performers during the Covid19 pandemic

USEF Developing Athlete Team member for Combined Driving since 2012
Competes and is Nationally ranked in the top ten for USEF Intermediate Single Horse Combined Driving National Championship, has competed internationally

Runs Special Needs Programs

Continuing Education Director of Fieldstone Therapeutic Center

Clinician and Instructor for the National Drive Educational Series

Of the 2000 registered Ohio Historic Family Farms, MCF is the last working farm in Cuyahoga County

Part of the American Quilt Trail

Grow over 100 varieties of Dahlias

Currently have 1 pig, 2 goats, 2 dogs, 5 cats, 80+ chickens, and 30+ horses (depending on the season)

Brant is a member of NORPCA and races in the NASA, IGT, SCCA, and ChampCar Endurance Racing series and has won four regional championships, four national championships, and countless other wins over his 25 years of racing
MCF has hosted MANY car club meetings and events over the last 30 years
